in order to initiate progress in thought and action.<br /><br />APIICON was born out of a need to highlight the experiences of the API community on and beyond the Berkeley campus. It encouraged students, faculty, and members of the community to reject the established norms and modes of thinking. Doing so, they critically questioned the status of Asian Pacific Islanders in contemporary American society.<br /><br />It is in that spirit, that the theme for APIICON this year is "Syncopation, disjunct rhythms in harmony." Syncopation is the recognition of the complexity of creating change. It is the understanding that the API community does not follow one prescriptive plan towards it.
